Mr. Medbury joined the law firm in 2000 and manages the administrative departments for the Firm. He is responsible for formulating and implementing major firm strategies and policies in the areas of human resources, finance, facilities, information systems, marketing, and general operations. He has a wealth of management experience from his previous employers and is a member of the Firm’s Management Committee.

Mr. Medbury has over 30 years experience managing professional organizations. Prior to joining Bowditch & Dewey in 2000, he was the Administrative Director of Hamilton, Brook, Smith & Reynolds, a patent law firm in Lexington.

Mr. Medbury holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of Denver and a Master of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at St. Vincent's Hospital and serves on the Peer Review Committee; Corporator and member of the Board for The Memorial Foundation for the Blind; Treasurer of Employers Against Domestic Violence; Chairman of the Audit Committee of WICN Public Radio; Membership Chair of the Central Massachusetts Financial Executives Organization; member of the Association of Legal Administrators; Co-Chair of the Leaders Circle for the 2007-2008 United Way Campaign; past President and Treasurer of Junior Achievement; past President of the Advocacy Center for Children; past Chairman for Worcester’s Alliance for Education; and an adjunct faculty member at Anna Maria College in Paxton. In October 2007, Mr. Medbury was a recipient of the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly Unsung Heroes Award in the category of Firm Administrator of the Year. He was also recognized by the YWCA’s Daybreak Resources for Women & Children as a “Great Guy” in June 2006 for efforts in fighting domestic violence. Mr. Medbury resides in Worcester with his wife, Linda Cavaioli, the Executive Director of the Worcester YWCA.

Mr. Foote works with the management committee to set firm strategy and is responsible for all marketing and business development activities.

Prior to joining Bowditch & Dewey, Mr. Foote was Director of Marketing and Strategy for the Financial Services Practice of Arthur Andersen in New England. Before joining Arthur Andersen, Mr. Foote was Director of Corporate Development at John Hancock Mutual Funds where he was in charge of Market Research, Product Development and Strategic Planning. He also has experience in the eLearning industry, having served as Director of Corporate Development at SkillSoft Corporation and as a strategic marketing consultant for Fund WatchDog Services, an eLearning startup company for mutual fund Boards of Directors. A lawyer by training, Mr. Foote’s early career included eleven years as a practicing attorney as in-house counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary for John Hancock Funds and as an enforcement attorney for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Mr. Foote is a former Director of the Association for Corporate Growth, Boston Chapter and a former Vice President of the Speaker’s Committee and Member of the Conference and Nominating Committees of this non profit international professional organization focused on corporate growth, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions. He is also a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Mr. Foote holds a B.A. from St. Lawrence University and J.D. from Boston College Law School.

As Chief Financial Officer, Joe is responsible for all aspects of the law firm’s accounting and financial management requirements and serves as an advisor to the Executive Director and Management Committee, providing analysis of data to assist in the Firm’s strategic planning objectives.

Joe joined Bowditch & Dewey in 2003 and has over thirty years of experience, including seventeen years in mid-size to large, national law firms. Prior to joining Bowditch & Dewey he was the Chief Financial Officer for Burns & Levinson.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Long Island University; is an active member of the Association for Legal Administrators; and volunteers at St. Patrick’s Manor, a senior citizens center.

As the law firm’s Law Librarian, Byron Hill is responsible for the acquisition and circulation of library materials. In the past few years he has made significant progress in transitioning the Firm to electronic library services, identifying resources, negotiating contracts, and training attorneys and staff. He is also responsible for providing research and reference services.

Mr. Hill joined the firm in l985 and has thirty years of experience in the field. Prior to joining Bowditch & Dewey, he was the Acquisitions Coordinator at the Boston College Law Library.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern Maine and attended the Graduate School of Library Science at the University of Rhode Island.  


Shawn Hill

Director of Information Systems

As the Information Systems Director, Shawn Hill is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the law firm’s information technology resources, developing and overseeing the ISD operation and capital budgets and ensuring that appropriate hardware, software and communications systems are implemented, maintained and upgraded. He works closely with Practice Area Leaders and other Administrative Managers to develop short and long term information services priorities and ensures that adequate help desk, training and other support capabilities are available to the Firm.

Mr. Hill joined Bowditch & Dewey in 1999. He has over twenty-five years of information systems experience in both corporate and legal settings. Prior to joining Bowditch & Dewey, he was the Systems Manager/Project Manager at McLane, Graf, Raulerson, Middleton, a Manchester, New Hampshire firm with over 80 attorneys.

He holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from Franklin Pierce College and a Graduate Certificate in Management in Information Systems from Clark University. He served as an Adjunct Instructor for computer related courses at Hesser College for six years. He is actively involved in the Special Olympics.


Vickie Manning

As the law firm’s Human Resources Manager, Vickie Manning is responsible for the development and effective implementation of personnel programs including the hiring process, benefit administration, training, evaluation, termination, grievances, salary administration and maintenance of personnel records. She also has direct supervisory responsibility for the legal support staff, working closely with Practice Area Leaders to determine staffing needs and to address issues.

Ms. Manning joined Bowditch & Dewey in 2000. She has twenty years of human resources related experience in both the public and private sector law. Prior to joining the Firm she was the Director of Support Services for the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General and a member of the Attorney General’s Executive Committee.

She attended Worcester State College where she majored in Psychology with a concentration in Industrial Relations, and is a certified mediator. She serves on the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board of the Salter School, and is an active member of the Association of Legal Administrators.
