Katherine Garrahan
Associate

Attorney Garrahan's practice includes commercial and non-profit real estate development, land use planning, permitting, conveyancing, leasing, environmental, clean energy, corporate and trust matters. Her land use advocacy includes due diligence, handling negotiations, and drafting agreements concerning real property purchase and sales, leases, financing, zoning relief, brownfields covenants not to sue, municipal by-law challenges, affordable housing regulatory agreements and permitting, including under MGL c. 40, §54A (properties formerly used as railroad right of ways or appurtenant to former railroad land) and c. 40A, §3 (nonprofit educational uses). Her work in affordable housing development includes financing programs of state and federal agencies such as the Executive Office of Communities and Development, Department of Housing and Urban Development and programs of the Federal Home Loan Bank.

Before becoming an attorney, Kathy worked for many years as a social worker, public administrator and consultant, gaining experience in government and health care industries in Massachusetts and New York, including program administration, budget forecasting, and planning, and headed up the fiscal affairs department of a state agency. Additionally, she took a lead role in co-founding a successful nonprofit private elementary school during the period of time she was primarily at home raising her children.
