Michael Angelini Quoted in “‘Tremendous progress’ for downtown Worcester with CitySquare project nearing completion” in Worcester Telegram

Worcester’s 20-year CitySquare project prepares to come to a close after selling two remaining undeveloped parcels at 5 Salem Square and 1 CitySquare. Michael Angelini, chairman of Bowditch & Dewey and chair of the Worcester Redevelopment Authority, said he now sees the city getting ready to add more new development downtown. He commented:

“We’ve made tremendous progress. There’s still ways to go. A vibrant downtown community needs more than residences. It needs the services those residents need and want. I don’t think we’ve yet created what is typically regarded as a complete neighborhood here, with a grocery store and a dry cleaner and services that people use as a neighborhood.”

He further noted: “I think the decision that’s been made — and it’s the appropriate decision — is get people to live downtown and they will ultimately demand the services that will make for a complete community downtown.”
