Governor Baker signed “An Act Providing for a Moratorium on Evictions and Foreclosures during the COVID-19 Emergency” (also known as the “Act”) on April 20, 2020. Below is an excerpt from the article about the Act.

The Act bars landlords from reporting rent payments missed during the moratorium to “consumer reporting agencies.” Further, the Act protects renters from late fees for rent payments missed during the moratorium provided the renter provides the landlord with “notice and documentation . . . that the non-payment of rent was due to a financial impact from COVID-19” within 30 days of the missed rent payment.
