Mark Borenstein and Jason Matthew

Mark Borenstein, Jason Matthew Selected Among Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s Excellence in the Law 2022 Honorees

Mark Borenstein, an attorney in the Real Estate practice group, and Jason Matthew, Director of Information Services, have been honored by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (MLW) for their 2022 Excellence in the Law awards.

You can read fantastic articles about Mark (page 4) and Jason (page 30) in a special MLW section published today.

Mark was selected as an Up & Coming Lawyer, a category of attorneys who have been members of the bar for 10 years or less, but who have already distinguished themselves. He represents individuals, companies and nonprofit organizations in connection with the acquisition and sale of real estate, leasing and land use, development and permitting. Mark practices in his native Worcester, where he is extremely active in the community.

Among Mark’s biggest legal accomplishments is when he assisted a client with the permitting and licensing of a 100,000-square foot brewery, distillery and winery facility. The project required federal, state and local licenses, and multiple phases of zoning approvals, including the creation of a tourism overlay district. The project will allow the client to further expand its sales within the commonwealth and boost economic development within the community.

Jason likes to take an extremely collaborative approach as Director of Information Services. This teamwork mentality has proved extraordinarily successful during his almost nine years at Bowditch, where he has spearheaded a new document management system for the firm, strengthened its information security protocols, and engaged in a years-long process to update and augment the firm’s technology resources.

As a member of the firm’s Technology Innovation Committee, Jason was a part of the group that pushed for significant training efforts, client
extranets, intake forms, contract standardization and document automation, among other endeavors. One of the first big projects was changing the document management system to implement a cloud-based system and transition the firm from a desktop model to a laptop model, a project that, as luck would have it, happened the summer before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly will celebrate all honorees at an in-person event in Boston on March 3, 2022.
