George J. Somi

George Somi is a litigation attorney with extensive courtroom experience and a strong background in trial advocacy, motion practice, discovery and complex case management. His hands-on courtroom experience, careful legal analysis, and practical approach to resolving disputes allow him to bring a measured, strategic perspective to each stage of litigation.

George is fluent in Levantine Arabic and has intermediate proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic and French.

Before Bowditch

Before joining the firm, George served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, where he handled a large and diverse caseload and developed substantial experience taking cases from investigation and pretrial proceedings through trial.

During his time as an Assistant District Attorney, George first-chaired more than 100 jury and bench trials and regularly litigated evidentiary and dispositive motions. He also managed hundreds of active matters simultaneously, negotiated settlements, directed discovery, and prepared expert and lay witnesses for hearings and trials.

George began his legal career in civil practice, representing plaintiffs in employment matters involving discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, whistleblower claims, and Family and Medical Leave Act issues.  His earlier experience also includes antitrust litigation support and federal civil litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, where he successfully litigated motions resulting in dismissal of claims.

During law school, George served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Marianne B. Bowler in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts

Besides work

Outside the office, George enjoys traveling with his wife and children, cooking, exploring new cuisines and restaurants, following international soccer, and cheering on Boston sports teams. He also has a longstanding interest in the music, culture and history of the Arab world and the broader Middle East.
