Press Release: John F. Shoro Elected New Managing Partner of Bowditch & Dewey LLP

Worcester, Framingham, and Boston, MA – January 18, 2021 – Bowditch & Dewey LLP started the new year with a new managing partner, John F. Shoro. An estate planning attorney, Shoro takes the helm from environmental attorney Robert D. Cox, who served as managing partner for the past four years.

For over a decade Shoro led the firm’s Estate, Financial & Tax Planning practice, recently turning over leadership to Kristin Shirahama. Under Shoro’s guidance the practice area expanded the depth and breadth of its expertise, added headcount at all levels, and grew its revenue. He was instrumental in recruiting, building, and developing the team.

Shoro says he plans to continue implementing the firm’s strategic plan, which includes developing the next generation of talent, modernizing the ways the firm delivers service, fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration with clients and client service teams, and perfecting the hybrid work model for law firms.

“Bowditch has a lot of great new talent and it’s imperative that we invest in everyone, whether it’s learning new technology, business development strategies, or client service skills,” says Shoro. “As client expectations for lawyers and law firms continue to evolve, we will evolve as well and hopefully set the bar in several areas.”

Shoro and Cox have been coordinating over the last several months to assure a seamless transition of leadership. “Both Bob and I began our careers with the firm and took on leadership roles because of our desire to pay it forward. We both care deeply about the long-term competitive vitality of the firm,” says Shoro, “This is a truly special place and I am excited about the future successes we will achieve for our clients and the firm.”

Cox served as managing partner while simultaneously managing an environmental law practice and serving as chair of the Greater Worcester Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors during 2020 and 2021, and as chair of the Environmental Business Council of New England from 2018 – 2020. He counsels clients through environmental compliance and enforcement actions, brownfields redevelopment, and clean water regulatory issues.
