Breakfast @ Bowditch: Health Insurance Reform - It's Live
October 29 * 7:30am - 9:30am * Mechanics Hall, 321 Main St. Worcester, MA
The health insurance marketplaces across the country opened on schedule on October 1. These marketplaces took millions of calls and the websites had millions of hits on that first day. That has not stopped the flow of new guidance from Washington, posing questions and quandaries for employers, government regulators, and lawyers alike. Federal health insurance reform places many new responsibilities on certain employers, responsibilities that are accompanied by the potential for significant penalties. January 1, 2014 is the day on which the marketplace health insurance policies go into effect and that the most significant new requirements become operational. Nevertheless, some elements of reform have been delayed and we see other requirements eased. Our presentation and Q & A will address where things stand and what is coming up.
Audrey Gasteier, Director of Employer Policy for the Massachusetts Health Connector, has agreed to join us. The Connector is the Massachusetts link between our state and the federal program. Audrey and her colleagues have met with employers all across the state and have produced notices and other helpful materials for Massachusetts business leaders. Beyond answering your questions, she will be able to tell you what concerns she has heard from the business community and can explain how those concerns are being addressed.
Jay Foran, of EBS Foran Insurance and Advisory Services, will join the panel to explain how things look from his perspective as an insurance advisor who has taken a very active role in helping his firm's clients navigate this brave new world.
