Joshua Lee Smith Quoted in MassLive’s “Worcester Academy head says it’s ‘joining Worcester revitalization’ with new athletic facility”

Worcester Academy received approval from the city’s Planning Board to move forward with its plans to construct a 72,000-square-foot athletic facility on Providence Street at a former St. Vincent Hospital site. The school acquired the property at 121 Providence Street in phases from 2007 to 2015 and has already created an athletic field, converted the hospital’s former generator into a black box theater and built a maintenance building. The two-level athletic center that will be constructed will contain a three-court gymnasium, a six-lane competitive swimming pool, locker rooms, meeting rooms and other accessory rooms for faculty and staff. Joshua Lee Smith spoke with MassLive about the project:

Joshua stated that the academy plans to make the campus welcoming to the community and said, “The academy is also offering to provide a lot more robust landscaping to be welcoming, inviting to the public because this project really in a lot of ways is a community-based project.”
