Brian J. Edmonds

Associate

Overview

Brian Edmonds is an Associate in the firm’s Dispute Resolution & Trials practice. Since joining the firm, Brian has used his prior experience in the Massachusetts Appellate Courts to bring value to the firm’s clients. In addition to other litigation related matters, he often works on appellate litigation matters relating to a variety of practice areas, including contract disputes, zoning appeals, and employment disputes.

What Brian enjoys most about appellate work is that he has the opportunity to take a wholistic view of the case. He can evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different arguments, based on the evidence that is properly before the Court, and ultimately present the strongest possible argument to support a client’s position.

Before Bowditch

Prior to joining Bowditch, Brian was a Judicial Law Clerk to Justice David A. Lowy of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and prior to that role he was a Judicial Law Clerk to Justice Amy Lyn Blake of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. While pursuing his J.D., Brian was an Associate and later the Online Editor of the New England Law Review. During that time, he hosted the Law Review’s podcast where he interviewed authors about their work that was published by the law review. He also authored a Note titled Unscrupulous but Zealous Advocacy: Ethics Lessons from David E. Kelley’s TV Lawyers. In 2019, this piece, which analyzed the ethics of the lawyers depicted in some of the world’s most popular legal television programs, won the Smith-Doheny Legal Ethics Writing Competition, a nationally recognized contest sponsored by Notre Dame Law School. It was also later published on the New England Law Review Forum.

Besides work

Brian has been studying martial arts since he was four years old and is a fifth-degree black belt in Uechi-Ryu karate. In addition to studying martial arts, he has served as a martial arts instructor at his karate school and continues to do so on occasion. Brian is also involved in his local community and previously served as a School Committee member in his hometown.  He currently serves as a member of the Park Commission for the Town of Groton, Massachusetts.
