David Mawhinney named American Bankruptcy Institute “40 Under 40” honoree

David Mawhinney, an attorney practicing in the areas of commercial litigation, restructuring, and insolvency, is the recipient of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) “40 Under 40” award, an annual program that honors 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. ABI is the largest multi-disciplinary, nonpartisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency. David was one of more than 350 candidates that were evaluated for this honor. David has represented a variety of parties in business and consumer bankruptcy cases, with an emphasis on corporate debtors in chapter 11 and mortgage-holders in chapter 13 consumer cases. In 2018, he became a member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges “Next Generation” Program. In 2012, while a law clerk for the Honorable Frank J. Bailey of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts, David helped develop what has become an annual program for the district and appeals court clerks of the First Circuit called “Introduction to Bankruptcy Law and the Bankruptcy System.”
