Press Release: Bowditch Receives Empowering Women Award by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly

Boston and Worcester, MA – July 27, 2026 – Bowditch was recently honored with the Empowering Women Award by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. The annual award recognizes law firms that show a strong commitment to supporting and elevating women attorneys.

Bowditch has received this recognition since the award’s inception in 2023, a tribute to the firm’s continued dedication to uplifting women throughout their legal careers.

In 2003, Bowditch launched its Women’s Initiative, made up of women attorneys and staff at Bowditch to support and retain women at the firm. As part of this program, Bowditch hosts quarterly meetings, networking events, and educational programs tailored to the needs of female professionals.

Bowditch’s female lawyers serve in many leadership positions at the firm and in the greater community. Every female attorney is a member of the Women’s Bar Association. In addition to its bench of successful women lawyers, three-quarters of Bowditch’s business operations leadership team are women.

Historically, Bowditch has been a leader in the advancement of women. In 1955, Irene Gowetz became a partner at the firm during a time when there were few women attorneys and partners at major law firms. One of Bowditch’s former Managing Partners, Jane Hawkes, was also one of the first women to serve a major Massachusetts law firm in that position.
